Challenge
Establishing Northeastern University’s presence in Seattle required moving quickly from site selection to occupancy while creating a distinctive academic environment. The project combined renovation of existing classroom space with new construction for student and administrative functions within a compact footprint. Shared-use requirements introduced additional coordination, as classrooms needed to support both university programs and other building tenants. Integrating advanced technology, sustainability goals, and institutional branding within an accelerated schedule further shaped the project.
Solution
We supported Northeastern through site selection, permitting, design, construction, and move-in for its new graduate campus. Our team guided the transformation of existing classrooms into technology-enabled learning environments while overseeing construction of new student lounge and administrative spaces, including a mezzanine level. Branding elements, signage, and commissioned artwork were incorporated to establish a strong campus identity. Coordination with project stakeholders also helped create a flexible shared-use model that supports both academic and corporate programming.
Outcome & Impact
The completed campus established Northeastern University’s Seattle presence with flexible learning, collaboration, and student support spaces designed for graduate education. Advanced videoconferencing technology expanded opportunities for remote instruction and cross-campus engagement. Shared classroom environments foster collaboration with neighboring organizations, including opportunities for academic and research partnerships. Northeastern University gained a highly visible and adaptable campus that supports continued growth in the Pacific Northwest.
