Challenge
Alaska Airlines evaluated two parallel paths—expanding its existing Copper River headquarters or purchasing the Longacres site from Boeing, where it was already leasing simulator space. The airline needed to consolidate operations spread across five separate buildings and increase training capacity to support a growing workforce. Selecting and advancing the Longacres option required rigorous due diligence to confirm it could be transformed into a centralized, highly specialized training and operations hub. The adaptive reuse of the former Boeing facility introduced additional complexity.
Solution
Building on our 10+ year trusted partnership with Alaska Airlines, we guided the team through a comprehensive due diligence and feasibility process, evaluating both the expansion of the Copper River campus and the acquisition of the Longacres site. Once Longacres was selected, we led the project from planning through execution, drawing on our experience delivering their Sea-Tac headquarters. Our team managed the adaptive reuse strategy, coordinated stakeholders, and integrated complex program elements – including simulation and large training spaces, expansive dining and meeting areas, and workplace functions – into a unified, high-performing training and office campus that meets both current and future needs.
Outcome & Impact
The Global Training Facility enables Alaska Airlines to consolidate operations from five locations into a single, centralized campus while significantly expanding training capacity. By bringing pilots, flight attendants, and other workgroups together under one roof, the facility improves efficiency, strengthens collaboration, and enhances the overall training experience. The result is a scalable, future-ready environment that supports Alaska’s continued growth, operational excellence, and long-term investment in its people.
