Challenge

As the Museum of Flight expanded across both sides of East Marginal Way South, visitors were required to cross a busy arterial roadway separating key portions of the campus. The Museum sought a solution that would improve safety, accessibility, and visitor experience while creating a stronger physical connection between exhibits and facilities. The project required coordination among multiple public agencies and funding partners, extensive permitting and approvals, and compliance with the reporting requirements associated with federal, state, county, and private funding sources.

Solution

We served as the Museum’s development manager, guiding the project from master planning through construction. Our team coordinated permitting and approvals, managed architect and contractor selection, oversaw design and construction, and maintained budget and schedule control throughout delivery. We also served as the primary liaison between the Museum and funding agencies, providing project reporting and ensuring compliance with Federal Transit Administration, State, and King County requirements while aligning the interests of numerous stakeholders around a common project vision.

Outcome & Impact

The T. Evans Wyckoff Memorial Bridge transformed the visitor experience by creating a safe, accessible, and highly visible connection between the Museum’s east and west campuses. The bridge eliminated a significant pedestrian safety concern, improved circulation for visitors and transit users, and strengthened the Museum’s ability to function as a unified campus. Beyond its transportation benefits, the bridge became a symbolic gateway that supports the Museum’s long-term growth, educational mission, and role as one of the region’s premier cultural destinations.
