Challenge
Lakeside School sought to create a new academic center that would support evolving teaching methods, interdisciplinary learning, and future program growth. The project required transforming a former athletic field into a major academic building while integrating specialized science labs, humanities classrooms, faculty spaces, and student gathering areas within an active campus environment. Construction had to be carefully coordinated with ongoing school operations, concurrent public infrastructure improvements, and a donor-funded capital campaign supporting the school’s long-term vision.
Solution
As Lakeside’s trusted advisor and project manager, we guided the project from planning through occupancy, helping align school leadership, faculty, consultants, donors, and project teams around a shared vision. Our team managed permitting, budgeting, scheduling, consultant procurement, design and construction oversight, and campus coordination while maintaining continuity on an occupied campus. Through proactive planning and stakeholder engagement, we helped position the project for successful delivery while supporting Lakeside’s broader campus development strategy.
Outcome & Impact
The T.J. Vassar ’68 Center for the Sciences and Humanities creates a new academic heart for the Upper School, bringing together science, humanities, faculty, and students in a highly collaborative environment. The facility expands academic capacity, supports innovative teaching and learning, and strengthens connections across disciplines through shared spaces and community-focused design. As a cornerstone of Lakeside’s campus master plan, the project provides a flexible, future-ready environment that will serve generations of students while advancing the school’s mission of educational excellence.
