Challenge
Expanding a major regional medical center required integrating critical care, surgical, imaging, and emergency services within a single tower addition. The project also involved extensive renovation and backfilling of existing campus facilities while maintaining ongoing hospital operations. Coordination of highly technical healthcare infrastructure, including a replacement central utility plant, added further complexity. Balancing phased implementation with operational continuity shaped the overall delivery strategy.
Solution
We provided development management oversight throughout planning, construction, and campus integration efforts. Our team coordinated contractor negotiations, budget management, and change control across the multi-phase program. Clinical departments, infrastructure systems, and support services were carefully aligned to support long-term operational goals. Following tower completion, we continued supporting renovations and shelled-space buildouts across the broader campus.
Outcome & Impact
The new medical tower significantly expanded Providence’s capacity for emergency, surgical, imaging, and inpatient care services. The facility includes 79 emergency treatment rooms, 18 surgical and interventional suites, 28 ICU rooms, 20 cardiac intensive care beds, and 168 acute care beds. Supporting infrastructure improvements strengthened long-term campus operations and resiliency. Our client received a highly coordinated healthcare expansion designed to support continued regional growth and patient care demands.
